About Me
Hi, I’m Kristen Reilly, and I’ve been a proud school nurse serving grades K–12 since 2019. My nursing journey began in 2015 after graduating Summa Cum Laude in December 2014. I started my career in med/surg and later transitioned into home care, where I cared for geriatric patients with chronic and terminal conditions. While meaningful, the emotional weight of long hours and heavy cases began to take a toll on my sensitive nature, and I found myself approaching burnout.
Everything changed when I accepted a full-time school nurse position at a high school—and I immediately rediscovered my passion for nursing. School nursing is a truly unique and rewarding specialty. It blends healthcare, education, advocacy, wellness, and student connection into one fulfilling role. I love being able to support not only the physical health of students, but also their emotional well-being, chronic conditions, safety needs, and daily challenges. And let’s be honest—if you’re a parent, the schedule is unbeatable… plus, summers off are a pretty great perk!
But even with all its benefits, stepping into school nursing can feel overwhelming. When I first started, I felt like a fish out of water—as if I had become a brand-new nurse all over again. It took years to truly feel confident, organized, and prepared in this role. For so long, I wished there were a textbook or manual that explained school nursing in a clear, practical way.
